Frequently Asked Questions — Land Clearing
Do I need a permit for land clearing in Sarasota County?
Sarasota County requires land clearing permits for clearing more than one acre, or for clearing in environmentally sensitive areas including wetlands and conservation zones. Smaller residential clearing projects may be exempt, but it depends on the species being removed and the zoning of your property. Yoder’s can help you determine what permits are needed before work begins.
How long does land clearing take?
A typical residential lot (up to half an acre) can be cleared in one to two days. Larger acreage or heavily wooded properties may take three to five days or more. Timeline depends on the density of vegetation, number and size of trees, stump grinding requirements, and how material is disposed of. We give you a realistic project timeline with your estimate.
What happens to the cleared material?
Trees and large wood are cut into manageable sections. Brush and smaller material is chipped on-site. All debris — chipped material, wood sections, and roots — is hauled off your property unless you’d like wood chips left for mulch. We leave the site clean.
Can you clear land with large trees and stumps?
Yes. Yoder’s has the equipment to handle full-grown oaks, pines, cabbage palms, and other large Florida trees. After felling, we grind stumps below grade using commercial stump grinders, and can grub out root balls when a construction project requires it. No tree is too large for our crew.
Do you clear invasive species like Brazilian pepper and Australian pine?
Yes — invasive species removal is one of the most common requests we receive. Brazilian pepper (Florida Holly) and Australian pine are widespread in Sarasota and Manatee County and can spread aggressively. Removing them improves property health and value and may be required as part of conservation compliance. We’ll remove and properly dispose of all invasive material.
